1900s Large Format Rossy Mahogany Camera/ City Exchange Fleet St. Goerz 18cm Len.I got this antique outfit from a London antique dealer and this shiny mahogany camera around turn of 19th century almost in the shooting condition if I have had some silver film sheets to put in the 3 film mahogany film plates as shown in photos.
I was told this is built with Cuban mahogany into half plate camera and sold by City Sale & Exchange, Lime Street London as the camera name plate says in photo 4. This particular model was sold from their Fleet Street branch around 1901. The workmanship on this camera is pure craftsmanship of the highest quality!
The camera mahogany is a very rare Victorian Edwardian mahogany and the camera is equipped with C.P. Goerz of Berlin Anastigmat brass lens. See photo 2,4 for this lens condition. In photo 7 show the leather lens cover has a crack ..and the glass condition is fair considering its age in the eyes of antique camera restoration people.. It is amazing this 120 years old camera still in tack.
The camera bellow in the area shown in photo 10 needs some restoration work if it is to be used in daylight photography. I believe this area will stand the nightly indirect light condition.
The camera comes with three high equity mahogany film plates. I show in photo group 8 and 9 how to open the plate, load the film sheet, lifting up the mahogany viewing plate and insert the film plate into the camera.
In film plate 1 the soft wood film frame was replaced by a glass frame. It seems to be very hard to replace the original delicate soft wood film frames as those still be in tack in other 2 film plates.
